Seeking Glue-free and Plastic-free closure of paper packaging |
| |
We are looking for a technology to seal paper packaging materials (paper only with no plastic coating) without using traditional glues or any other additive. For a sustainable packaging application, we're looking for a technology to seal or crimp kraft paper without using glue or plastic coating applied on the paper. Ideally, we want to seal 100% untreated paper without adding any other chemicals. Our preferred solution would be a folding of the packaging material |
Seeking Upskilling and Next-Generation Activated Carbon Fiber Technology |
| |
BACKGROUND P&G competes across many consumer-packed goods categories where malodor is a top consumer concern. We believe that incorporating volatile organic compound (VOC) adsorption technologies into products could serve our consumers’ needs for odor control. We have evaluated numerous adsorbent technologies and activated carbon fiber (ACF) is of particular interest. NEED DESCRIPTION We are seeking to consult and potentially partner with an expert in activated carbon fiber to understand the impact of precursors, processing conditions, and methods of incorporating ACF into textiles and/or nonwovens on volatile organic compound adsorption performance, durability, and large-scale manufacturability. As a first step, we are interested in the identified SME giving a seminar on the basics of ACF to educate the organization. Longer-term, we are interested in co-developing and testing various ACFs in our in vitro and in vivo methods to link the various parameters of ACFs to their odor control performance. Below are more specific descriptions of the expertise and capabilities we are seeking. |
Seeking technologies to reduce GHGs in all aspects of the supply chain and manufacturing process. |
| |
PepsiCo is committed to reducing GHG emissions from seed to shelf. We are looking to engage with partners who can assist us in our goal of reducing GHG 20% by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. As new technologies emerge, efficiencies will be gained and PepsiCo aims to remain at the forefront of best practices in the food and beverage industry. PepsiCo is seeking technologies to reduce GHGs in all aspects of the supply chain and manufacturing process. Solutions may be in one or more of the following areas: • Agriculture – sustainable farming and the reduction of GHG intensive fertilizers • Manufacturing – adopting energy efficient manufacturing processes; novel methods for utilizing waste; use of renewable thermal energy at scale • Packaging – alternative packaging materials and formats that reduce GHGs • Distribution – technologies to assist in the efficiency of our company-owned and third party fleet |
Vehicle seat cover with a monitoring system |
| |
Smart seat cover for vehicle seats that includes a vital signs sensors network, embedded in upholstery for monitoring the physiological state of the driver or passengers. The integrated sensors monitor subject’s breathing (bio-radar) and several comfort parameters, such as humidity, pressure and temperature. All sensors were developed using the System on Substrate (SoS) technology, sharing the same textile substrate. |
New method to improve treatment of atrial fibrillation |
| |
Researchers from the CNIC and HCSC have developed a system to guide ablation procedures in a patient-specific way in complex cases of persistent atrial fibrillation, identifying these key regions to be treated with great precision and specificity. Furthermore, it does not require additional equipment or consumables, but only software that could be implemented within any conventional electroanatomical browser, so it would not make current pulmonary vein isolation procedures more expensive, with the advantage of being able to perform patient-specific ablation in complex cases. |
Industrial production of humic and fulvic acid from biomethan digestate |
| |
Anaerobic digestion is a process able to degrade organic waste to methane using a diverse microbial community. However, not all organics present in the feedstock can be biologically degraded and the undegraded fraction are disposed to fields or incinerated. This fraction, called the digestate, is underexploited and represents an interesting source of humic substances as they remain undegraded during the AD process. Our solution consists of a series of process to extract and concentrate those humic substances, specially fulvic acid. The first step is the mechanical separation of the liquid and solid phases. Then the liquid fraction undergoes a serie of filtration to remove inorganic precipitates, large particules and impurities. Then the concentration is done by reverse osmosis where the water is removed, and the humic substance solution retained. This technology allows a recovery of 60% of the humic substances in a solution containing at least 50% of fulvic acids. Further concentration steps can be done if necessary to obtain a solution with a minimum concentration of 12% w/w. |
